The Public Goods Working Group is responsible for funding public goods in web3
The Public Goods Working Group is responsible for funding public goods in web3 that are not ENS-specific or ENS-centric. These are projects that may receive grants from other major (protocol) DAOs because of the positive and often broad impact the project has on the wider Ethereum ecosystem.
Examples of public goods projects that have received or would be eligible to receive funding from the Public Goods WG include Ethers, WAGMI, cryptofees.info, revoke.cash, or web3scaffold β all projects that could receive funding from other DAOs. Funding may also be used to fund web3 public goods through other platforms, such as Gitcoin.
Public Goods WG Stewards
For the 2024 Term, the elected Stewards of the Public Goods Working Group are:
- simona.eth (@sim_pop) Lead Steward
- coltron.ethΒ (@Coltron_eth)
- eduardo.eth (@vegaypatino)
Meetings
There are weekly Public Goods WG meetings and everyone is welcome. To view the agenda and meeting notes for each Public Goods weekly meeting, visit this post on the Governance Forum, which is updated weekly.
If you would like to add an item to the agenda, you can reach out to the Lead Steward.
Public Goods WG Funds
The Public Goods WG is funded at the start of each term. The funding process is set out in Rule 10 of the Working Group Rules. A funding request is first passed as a Social Proposal on its own, then as a Collective Executable Proposal, with the other WG funding requests.
Funding requests approved in an Executable Proposal are paid out from the DAO treasury (wallet.ensdao.eth) to the Public Goods WG multisig.
Public Goods stewards are empowered to distribute funds as they see fit, in pursuit of the purpose of their working group, pursuant to Rule 10.5 of the Working Group Rules. This means stewards may reallocate funds previously earmarked for another purpose in a funding request, to the extent it doesnβt conflict with any rules of the DAO or the Constitution.
Public Goods WG Multisig
The Public Goods WG multisig has four signers: the three stewards elected for the term plus the Secretary, who is appointed by a majority of stewards each term.
In order for a transaction to be executed, 3 of 4 signers must approve the transaction.
Funding Requests
If you are seeking funding from the Public Goods WG, you are encouraged to attend a weekly PG WG meeting and/or reach out to a Public Goods steward.
