Important contracts related to the ENS DAO are wallet.ensdao.eth, token.ensdao.eth, and governor.ensdao.eth
The ENS DAO was launched with the $ENS token. The total supply of $ENS is 100,000,000. The address for the $ENS token contract is token.ensdao.eth (0xC18360217D8F7Ab5e7c516566761Ea12Ce7F9D72).
The token lock contract (tokenlock.ensdao.eth) was transferred 45% of the total supply of $ENS at the launch of the DAO, along with vested and locked tokens for core contributors. Tokens in the token lock contract unlock linearly over 4 years, from November 8 2021.
Tokenholders can delegate their $ENS tokens. A delegate can submit proposals and cast votes. When delegates vote on or submit proposals, they interact with the ENS DAOβs version of the Open Zeppelin governor contact (governor.ensdao.eth).
An important function of the governor.ensdao.eth contract is the ability to allow successful proposals to interact with wallet.ensdao.eth, which is a contract commonly referred to as the ENS DAO treasury.
The ENS DAO treasury holds the funds of the ENS DAO. As at 13 March 2023, wallet.ensdao.eth holds the following token balances:
- 15,021 ETH
- 17,144,568 USDC
- 10,058,334 $ENS
The assets of the ENS DAO treasury are as follows:
$ENS is sourced from 5m $ENS allocated to the treasury at the launch of the DAO in this transaction and 5.4m $ENS tokens that werenβt claimed in the airdrop, that were swept back to the treasury.
ETH is sourced from contoller.ens.eth, which is the contract that handles registrations and renewals of .eth names. Wallet.ensdao.eth is the only contract that is able to call the withdraw function on controller.ens.eth. Doing so will withdraw all Ether in controller.ens.eth and move it to wallet.ensdao.eth. Most recently, EP 3.3, passed in February 2023, called the withdraw function on controller.ens.eth, withdrawing ~40k ETH into wallet.ensdao.eth.
Following the successful initiation of the ENS Endowment, 16,000 ETH was transferred from wallet.ensdao.eth to the Endowment safe wallet on March 7 2023. The endowment wallet is owned and controlled by the DAO.
USDC is predominantly sourced from a proposal to swap 10k ETH to USDC (EP 3.3). EP 3.3 was passed in February 2023. The ENS DAO treasury was also transferred funds soon after the launch of the DAO, in EP 0.1.
